project #10 - window art
borrowing daily-use frames for art
The Proposal
To write to all the level 1 tenants of a HDB block to borrow a window pane
Artists are commissioned to create a vinyl sticker piece which is interesting from both inside and outside the house/window
In more words…
We see much of the world through frames—windows, screens, and our own biases. But what happens when someone else is invited to change the look of a frame you encounter every day? The idea of having art that looks good for the folks outside, while also doing something for you inside your home, is intriguing.
Windows used to be expressive too, especially in times when not everyone could read or when people proudly embraced communal identities. A home’s windows form an ambiguous surface: one side opens onto your private space, while the other faces the public and also serves as a protective boundary.
Would interesting windows encourage people to linger? Would it encourage people to strike up conversations?
